FAMM President Shaneva D. McReynolds appointed to USSC Sentence Impact Advisory Group

The newly formed group will allow for stakeholder input as the Commission reviews and revises federal sentencing guidelines

WASHINGTON, D.C. – FAMM is excited to announce that our president, Dr. Shaneva D. McReynolds, has been appointed as a voting member of the United States Sentencing Commission’s (USSC) newly formed Sentence Impact Advisory Group (SIAG).

“I could not be more honored to join the SIAG,” said Dr. McReynolds. “Involving impacted voices in the sentencing process is a critical part in creating more effective and fair sentences. I am incredibly humbled to have the opportunity to share my experiences—as the loved one of someone who spent over a decade in prison, as the surviving spouse of a victim of violent crime, and as the president of FAMM.”

The goals of the SIAG include assisting the Commission in fulfilling its statutory duties to review and revise sentencing guidelines; providing input on proposed priorities and amendments; sharing information on federal sentencing issues with sentenced individuals, their families and advocacy groups; and assisting the Commission in better incorporating the experiences of impacted people in its work. Dr. McReynolds will serve a three-year term beginning on September 1, 2025, and ending on August 31, 2028.

      About FAMM

Since FAMM’s founding in 1991, it has helped more than 500,000 Americans receive shorter, fairer prison sentences. FAMM and its advocates have also helped reduce the nation’s prison population by approximately 200,000 people and reduce racial disparities in sentencing, bringing the nation’s Black prison population to its lowest level since 1989.

FAMM’s mission is to create a more fair and effective justice system that respects our American values of individual accountability and dignity while keeping our communities safe. This mission not only reduces unnecessary suffering for incarcerated people, but also for their family members who have to serve the sentence along with their incarcerated loved one.
