Six Oregon members of Congress have called for immediate action from BOP Director Colette Peters to address "alarming shortcomings" at FCI Sheridan identified by the Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General (DOJ OIG).

Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley, along with four Oregon House members, emphasized the report’s findings, which questioned FCI Sheridan’s certification as a Medical Care Level 2 institution. These institutions are required to provide routine outpatient services, but the DOJ OIG report highlighted frequent delays in inmate care.

The lawmakers’ letter demands answers on several critical issues, including staff shortages, the provision of medical care, the Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP), and security concerns. They stress the importance of addressing these issues to ensure the safety and well-being of both staff and inmates at the facility.
