Every four years I deal with the dread of Presidential Elections. As a student of History, I follow both the major parties and nominees to try and keep up to date. usually the name calling, non- facts, and mudslinging is the norm.

Now that the major parties have selected their candidates via Convention, the “norm” will be ramping up to full blast. Both sides will forget all about the issues concerning our nation and focus on the other candidate’s faults.

For once I would like to see a politician come out with reasonable and sound solutions to fix or attempt to fix the issues that plague our nation. The extremism on both sides does not accomplish anything except gridlock. The mentality of “My way or the Highway” only creates more problems on top of the current ones.

The state of our current Political issues is nothing new. When our country was being formed, many issues were hotly debated in person and in the media (newspapers). Both sides realized taht compromise was needed to make this nation work. Our current leaders seemed to have forgotten that. Both sides must be willing to give up something for the betterment of our nation and her people. In the end, everyone wins. “Hopefully, one day, our leaders will see the “right” and come to the realization that being a stick in the mud will get you nowhere except voted out of office.

As I teach my ACE class on Government, many students do not realize the power that the common man has. We have the power to vote someone into and out of office. The problem with many citizens is they do not exercise their “power.” Many would rather complain about the current leadership instead of getting down to the polls and vote. For those who read this and other blogs, get out and vote for whomever you wish. Before you do though, do your homework on both candidates. Try to find a neutral site that addresses the issues and see where both candidates stand. Do not believe the mainstream media!

Do your own research. Then, use the power givent o you by the U.S. Constitution and vote.

Fortunately, we only have about 40 days left until election day and the majority of negative ads will have disappeared along with the biased news coverage. Once November 5 comes, the chaos will lessen until the next four years. With that I will close. Thank you for reading my blog. Please comment below! Til Next Time, Live Long & Prosper!
