KeymasterI sent to my surrogate family and friend emails on how I make (and they can make) prison Nachos. I share what you need, how to preparer and make prison nachos, and the cost that feeds a family of four. So, in this blog, I share the same with you, so you can experience what kinds of food we make in prison and the cost.
But first, I want to wish you all a Happy New Year’s. In prison, we don’t have a special meal on New Year’s, but I’m going to be cooking nachos on New Year’s Eve for four guys here.
To make nachos you need 1-bag (16oz) of nacho corn chips, or if you can buy two (8oz) bags of Doritos that’s even better. Then, one (8oz) bag of dried refried beans (add 20oz. of water) or two already made cans of refried beans, one package of chili with beans or one can of chili with beans. One (6oz) Rip and Ready shredded beef barbacoa package. Due to cost of beef, I use one beef barbacoa (6oz.), or one (5oz) diced beef salami sausage, or one(7oz.) shredded roast beef when it ever shows up in commissary. Four jalapeño squeeze cheeses, but since you can buy from a store use grated cheddar cheese (8oz). One small jar of sliced jalapeño peppers (Dice jar of peppers). Your favorite hot sauce, and one package of cream cheese. It feeds a family of four. After you cook and heat up the beef, beans, and chili. Then its time to prepare.
TO PREPARE!
Get four large bowls or four dinner plates.
-Place a small handful of corn chips in each bowl or on each plate. (You’re going to be layering the chips).
-Add two huge tablespoons of refried beans that are thick but runs off the spoon. So, a little watery.
-Squeeze a little jalapeño squeeze cheese or sprinkle a little bit of grated cheddar cheese on the beans.
-Add another layer of corn chips
-Use a teaspoon and add chili with beans until all gone (equal amounts in all 4 bowls)
-then sprinkle diced jalapeño peppers
-Add more cheese
-Add another layer of corn chips
-add shredded beef (1oz. in each bowl). If you want to add one more beef package. Then a little more cheese
-Add the rest of the corn chips and use the rest of the refried beans, jalapeños, and cheese.
-Top it off with squeeze cream cheese and hot sauce to your liking.
It is a lot easier than it sounds. The cost is around $4.00 per person, but there is enough to last for lunch and dinner, but it’s a meal. The items cost $3.80 for nacho chips, $1.54 for refried beans, $2.40 for chili, $1.54 for a jar of jalapeños, $1.36 for 4 squeeze cheeses, $3.35 for beef, and hot sauce $0.82, and Holy Cow cream cheese is $1.04.
Well, enjoy the New Year! And try making Prison Nachos for your New Year’s celebration. Less than a twenty dollar bill feeds a family of four, or four incarcerated individuals. I hope this gets posted in time for New Year’s! So, you can have a wonderful meal watching Arizona State Sun Devil’s defeat the Texas Longhorns in the Peach Bowl!
